Metabolic Potential Versus Genome Size

چکیده
In this study, we have shown that there is a connection between the metabolic potential (the coefficient 'a' in metabolic-mass relationship P = aMk, where P- basal rate, M-body mass, k-power coefficient) and corresponding genome size (C-value diapason) of given organismal taxon. With increase living organisms evolution, C-value diapason taxon decreases. The study shows genomic characteristics simplest bacterial cells represent natural scale. all more complex emerge after them are adjusted with This finding may provide an answer to genome-size enigma.

Metabolic 'engines' of flight drive genome size reduction in birds.
The tendency for flying organisms to possess small genomes has been interpreted as evidence of natural selection acting on the physical size of the genome. Nonetheless, the flight-genome link and its mechanistic basis have yet to be well established by comparative studies within a volant clade. Is there a particular functional aspect of flight such as brisk metabolism, lift production or maneuv...

Materials and Methods Genome Size The haploid genome size (C-value, in pg) of 1461 ray-finned fish species (Actinopterygii) was downloaded from the Animal Genome Size Database (www.genomesize.com). Unless otherwise stated, comparisons of genome sizes are performed on the C-values, which can be converted to number of base pairs by the following: number of base pairs = C-value × 0.978 × 109. Seve...
متن کاملGenome size and microsatellites: the effect of nuclear size on amplification potential.
Although the frequency of microsatellite DNA regions generally increases with increasing genome size, genome size has a negative effect on polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification. Thus, researchers developing sets of PCR primers, as is commonly done for microsatellite DNA regions, may encounter greater difficulty when working with species that have larger genomes. I investigated the effec...
متن کاملDoes Cell Size Impact Chloroplast Genome Size?
There is a strong positive relationship between nuclear genome size and cell size across the eukaryotic domain, but the cause and effect of this relationship is unclear. A positive coupling of cell size and DNA content has also been recorded for various bacteria, suggesting that, with some exceptions, this association might be universal throughout the tree of life. However, the link between cel...
متن کاملGenome-scale metabolic networks.
During the last decade, models have been developed to characterize cellular metabolism at the level of an entire metabolic network. The main concept that underlies whole-network metabolic modeling is the identification and mathematical definition of constraints. Here, we review large-scale metabolic network modeling, in particular, stoichiometric- and constraint-based approaches. Although many ...
